In The News

Cuba Practice Chair Augusto Maxwell, International Practice Chair Pedro Freyre and Senior Policy Consultant on Cuba Matthew Aho published an editorial in the June 28 issue of the Miami Herald. The Letter to the Editor praised the newspaper for its well-researched article on Cuba's emerging private sector, which the team is active in supporting.

The authors wrote: "Congratulations on a well-researched and insightful article on Cuba’s emerging private sector, Capitalism makes a comeback in Cuba. We began representing a small number of these private Cuban companies more than two years ago to assist them in complying with U.S. sanctions. Based on that experience, we support efforts to ask the Biden Administration for focused regulatory changes that would help Cuba's private sector grow and would deliver on the bipartisan consensus that private enterprise in Cuba is worth supporting. While human rights should remain a focal point of U.S. policy, we urge the administration to also allow Americans—be they friends, families, investors, or banks—to assist these brave entrepreneurs in forging a new, more prosperous future for the Cuban people."
