Christian George, managing partner of Akerman’s Jacksonville, Fla., office, was sworn in as president of The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers’ Division (YLD) during its annual convention in Orlando, Fla. Concluding his term as president-elect, George now leads an organization of approximately 28,000 lawyers under the age of 36 in its mission to support and advance the purposes of The Florida Bar and the legal profession. The YLD administers all Practicing with Professionalism and Basic CLE courses throughout Florida and provides a full program of activities and projects that offer education and mentorship opportunities to young lawyers, supports pro bono efforts, and enhances their health and well-being, among other things. As part of his responsibilities, George will continue to serve on The Florida Bar’s Board of Governors and Executive Committee.

George has been a member of the board of governors of YLD since 2012 as well as serving on the board’s executive committee and as a representative of the Fourth Judicial Circuit. During Hurricane Irma, he wrote an impassioned plea for Florida lawyers to assist communities via The Florida Bar News, sharing his personal story of how Hurricane Irma impacted him and his family.
