In The News

Akerman Bankruptcy and Reorganization Associate Ian Roberts participated as one of only 46 lawyers in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ) 2026 Next Generation (NextGen) program, held during NCBJ’s Annual Meeting in San Diego.

NextGen participants, early-career bankruptcy practitioners with 10 or fewer years of experience, must meet rigorous qualification criteria. These include a practice focused on bankruptcy law, a proven dedication to civility, ethics, and professionalism, and a commitment to advancing the education of bankruptcy professionals and to professional work that serves the public, the bankruptcy bar, and the courts.

Ian represents debtors, secured lenders, ad hoc creditor groups, equity holders and sponsors, DIP lenders, acquirers, and other participants in complex restructurings and related litigation. He has experience in complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, out-of-court reorganizations, recapitalizations, distressed financings, and liability management transactions across industries including retail, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, real estate, and automotive. Best Lawyers has listed Ian as “One to Watch” in Florida for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law, and the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division has recognized him as a “Star of the Quarter.”
