Press Release

Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP has expanded its Litigation Practice Group with Of Counsel Jason Frederick Emert in Miami, the firm's second largest office after New York.

An entrepreneur, international lawyer, arbitrator, and consultant, Emert practiced at his own boutique firm before joining Akerman. He is also the founder of The Emert Group, a global advisory firm whose clients have included members of Congress, world leaders, diplomats, and international corporations. He is an adjunct professor of international law at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee and an officer in the U.S. Air Force and currently serves as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 134th Air Refueling Wing in the Tennessee Air National Guard.

"Our International Litigation and Arbitration Practice is growing from a position of strength across offices, particularly Miami, while deepening our ties in Latin America," said Larry Rochefort, Litigation Practice Group Chair. "Jason is a highly accomplished and respected lawyer and consultant, and his arrival reinforces our commitment to having a top-tier practice across the Americas and across international lines."

Emert formerly led a European-based non-governmental organization (NGO) where he worked with civil society organizations, political parties, and foreign governments on human rights, rule of law, democratization, and free trade. He has a broad range of experience across Europe, West Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Emert is a frequent commentator on international law, global affairs, and foreign elections. He has taught undergraduate courses at various universities on international relations, world politics, national security, and U.S. foreign policy. Similarly, he served as a legal specialist for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative in Bosnia and chaired the International Law Committee of the ABA Young Lawyers Division.

Additionally, Jason is a former college football player and coach. He maintains deep ties in college athletics and higher education having worked on such issues as athlete and coach representation, NCAA compliance, administration, fundraising, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) legislation.

This month, Akerman also deepened its cross-border strengths with National Security and International Trade Partner Matthew Goldstein in Washington, D.C. and international litigation and arbitration partner Andrew Dominguez in Miami.
