Alan Cohen, chair of Akerman’s Real Estate Finance Practice, was quoted in the Law360’s first and third installments in a series about Opportunity Zones. The most recent article titled, “In The (Opportunity) Zone: How To Avoid Diligence Pitfalls,” elaborated on the guidelines that developers must follow when investing in an Opportunity Zone project.
Cohen pointed out that well-established real estate players may have the systems in place and experience necessary to make sure projects satisfy all the requirements of the law. "Brookfield, Starwood, Silverstein, some of the major players … that have reporting and internal controls set up already, it's very comforting that they'll meet all the timelines.”
