The American Health Law Association (AHLA) elected two Akerman lawyers to serve in leadership roles with the organization. Sidney Welch, Atlanta Office Managing Partner, has been a named a Fellow of AHLA, while Elizabeth Hodge will serve on AHLA’s Privacy and Security Risk Compliance and Enforcement Affinity Group. The appointments are effective July 1, 2020. 

Welch is a nationally recognized strategic advisor to large specialty physician practices and associations and technology companies in their cutting edge and traditional healthcare, transactional, and litigation needs. She serves as strategic regulatory counsel, providing counsel to clients regarding tomorrow’s healthcare, including mhealth and digital health ventures; telehealth; precision medicine; artificial intelligence and machine learning; data aggregation and analytics; health information privacy and security; and advanced payment and delivery models.  

Hodge concentrates her practice on compliance and regulatory issues affecting healthcare providers and payers and employer-sponsored health plans. She has significant experience with HIPAA and the HITECH Act and assists covered entities and business associates in complying with these laws through the development of policies and procedures, workforce training, analysis and notification of breaches, and assisting with government audits and investigations.
