Akerman Chairman and CEO Andrew Smulian was quoted in a Law360 article titled, “How Law Firms Responded When Disaster Struck,” in which he discussed the firm’s long-tested emergency preparedness plans and relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. In addition to having a rapid response team in place to manage both employee and client needs seamlessly and in real time across the firm’s 24 offices nationally, Smulian told the publication Akerman has formalized internal programs for employees affected by those recent hurricanes. Those include housing assistance, the formation of an emergency relief fund, counseling services and pro bono legal advice, as well as several other standard emergency planning protocols.

“Given our large number of offices in Florida and Texas, we have experienced the effects of numerous severe storms firsthand,” Smulian told Law360. “As a result, our emergency preparedness plans have been battle tested and continuously updated.”
