Brit T. Brown, co-chair of Akerman's Energy Sector Team, and Scott D. Marrs, office managing partner of Akerman's Houston office, have been named to the 2026 Lawdragon 500 Global Leaders in Energy, an annual guide recognizing leading energy lawyers worldwide whose practices span all sectors of the energy industry — from oil and gas and petrochemical to wind, solar, and nuclear — selected through independent research, peer discussion, and editorial review.
Brit, named to the list for the second consecutive year, is a veteran trial lawyer with more than 37 years of experience representing energy and automotive clients in trials, arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and pre-trial matters. His practice encompasses commercial and tort-related litigation, including supplier, dealer, personal injury, product liability, and distribution disputes, with significant experience in commercial and construction disputes and litigation involving catastrophic operational failures. Brit worked in the upstream industry and earned his M.B.A. before attending law school, experience he brings directly to his case strategy, investigation, and trial work.
Scott, also recognized for the second consecutive year, is a formidable trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience litigating high-profile matters in state and federal courts and in arbitrations across the United States, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. His practice spans virtually all aspects of the energy sector, including oil and gas exploration, production, transportation, storage, power, chemical, petrochemical, energy marketing, and well service, as well as intellectual property and complex commercial disputes. In addition to his litigation practice, Scott serves as an arbitrator with several leading international arbitration institutions and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
