This year could be the perfect storm for mergers and acquisitions in the cannabis industry, according to Akerman lawyer and industry insider Zachary Kobrin. Kobrin told Green Market Report, a news outlet focused on the financial side of the cannabis industry, that he is "very bullish on M&A" for 2023 and expects much of that activity will involve mid-size companies acquiring numerous dispensary licenses in Illinois and Maryland.

"I just think, the next 18 months, there’s going to be a flood of M&A, but small M&A," Kobrin told the publication.

Kobrin is a partner in Akerman's Government Affairs and Public Policy Practice Group and focuses his work on cannabis, marijuana, and hemp law. Prior to Akerman, he served as the Vice President and General Counsel for one of the largest cannabis companies in the U.S. and as the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for a publicly traded, multi-state cannabis company. Kobrin was also appointed to the Florida Medical Cannabis Advisory Committee by the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services.
