Christian George, Akerman Jacksonville Office Managing Partner and President of Young Lawyers Division, is spearheading a “Health and Wellness Month for Florida Lawyers” in a partnership with The Florida Bar. The movement coincides with a recent study which revealed growing concerns among young lawyers in Florida.

According to the results of the study, 58% of Florida lawyers believe their careers are becoming less desirable. Participants cited mounting student debt, toxic work environments, and exhausting work hours as reasons for their response. In addition, 41% admitted they have considered leaving the legal profession, and 37% reported being treated for or diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or “another mental health concern.”

“We need to continue the conversation,” George said. “People shouldn’t be afraid to seek treatment for these issues or to be open and honest with their firms, their law partners, their friends.”
