The Daily Business Review has named Akerman winner of its second annual "Litigation Departments of the Year" award, which recognizes regional and national law firms with "powerhouse practices" in Florida. The firm will be awarded in the intellectual property and general litigation categories for its work as a large law firm.

Under the intellectual property litigation category, an Akerman team was recognized for defeating a patent infringement claim by Grant Street Group for its client, Realauction.com, over an online auction software. The team, led by David Brafman, responded to a luggage patent infringement lawsuit by suing the plaintiff in litigation that ended with the early dismissal of the initial lawsuit.

In the general litigation category, an Akerman team was recognized for helping Raytheon subsidiary, Raytheon Anschutz successfully challenge an arbitration award involving navigation equipment on two Venezuelan submarines. Luis Perez, Co-Chair of Akerman's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice Group, and Luis O'Naghten, Chair of the firm's International Litigation & Arbitration Practice, were previously honored as "Most Effective Lawyers" by the Daily Business Review for their involvement in this dispute.

The firm's litigation practices will be honored at an award ceremony on April 16 at the JW Marriott Miami.
