David Blum elaborated on the efforts by tax professionals to conduct audits amid the COVID-19 pandemic in an article by Law360. The article points out that state tax agencies are scrambling to adapt to an environment where in-person contact is not an option, opting to conducting audits virtually.
Blum spoke about the logistics tax professionals are currently facing. “Oftentimes you have a director of tax instructing the IT people to provide a data dump in a secure website, a secure link. And then the auditor uploads the link.”
He continued, “One thing I'm finding is an improvement in overall tone. Everyone seems to be more cordial and patient with each other.”
