The Trump administration’s efforts to defang the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) are expected to impact the fintech industry when state regulators attempt to assert their authorities to fill some of the gaps left by the CFPB. This could result in a complex regulatory landscape for fintech companies attempting to navigate varying state standards and enforcement priorities.
Akerman CFS+ Partner and former CFPB Managing Counsel, Eric Goldberg, recently shared his thoughts on these developments with PitchBook.
“States have staffed up over the last eight years. They’re much larger offices. But they can’t fill the gap entirely,” he told the publication.
