Eric Gribbin and Julia Lissner co-authored an analysis for Law360 titled, "Bidding Farewell to Restrictive Legends on Checks," which examined an appellate court decision they achieved for Akerman client BMO Harris Bank NA, and its impact on the banking industry. In the case Aliaga Medical Center SC v. BMO Harris Bank NA, the Illinois court rejected a customer claim that BMO Harris bank improperly cashed a check, which bore the "Void After 90 Days" notation. Gribbin and Lissner stressed that the decision scores an important victory for banks across the nation and serves as a cautionary tale for bank customers while defining a new rule of law in today's banking system. The decision bids farewell to restrictive legends on checks in a modern banking era and emphasizes the importance of the account agreement between the bank and the customer. Gribbin and Lissner represented BMO Harris Bank NA in both the underlying case and the appeal that resulted in the Aliaga decision.

Gribbin and Lissner wrote, "The Aliaga decision is valuable to banks nationwide because it articulates a new rule of law regarding the effect of restrictive notations on checks in the modern banking era where banks regularly process checks electronically."
