Press Release

Akerman is proud to share that Litigation Partner Grasford Smith has been elected to The Florida Bar's Board of Governors. Smith represents the 15th Circuit, Seat 1 and will be installed during The Florida Bar’s annual convention in June 21, 2024.

"It's an honor to serve my fellow Florida Bar members," Smith said. "I look forward to contributing to the bar’s continued success."

The 52-member Board of Governors has exclusive authority to formulate and adopt matters of policy concerning the activities of The Florida Bar, subject to limitations imposed by the rules regulating the bar.

Smith focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation matters. He has experience representing Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, athletic leagues, technology companies, and a U.S. Congressman, in addition to a variety of small and medium-sized businesses. He is also certified by the Supreme Court of Florida as a circuit civil mediator.

In addition to serving on the Board of Governors, Smith is president of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and serves on the Florida State University College of Business Board of Governors. He is the chair of the American Heart Association, among several other roles and is also the immediate past president of the Black Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County.

Smith has been honored for excellence in Lawdragon, Super Lawyers Magazine, The Best Lawyers in America, South Florida Business Journal, Florida Trend, and in American Lawyer Media’s Daily Business Review.
