Jeffrey Horton Thomas spoke to the Los Angeles Daily Journal about California’s Assembly Bill 5's (AB 5) impact on so-called “cloud workers,” independent contractors who work remotely for tech companies and often handle tasks for cloud-based apps at low wages. AB 5, set to take effect on January 1, 2020, will reclassify certain independent workers as employees with benefits, if they meet certain criteria.

Thomas explains, “The basic analysis is which state has the greater public interest in the dispute. What’s important with respect to AB 5 is that it is a uniquely strong expression of California’s public policy in favor of protecting workers."
