Jonathan Robbins, Cannabis Practice Chair, spoke to Reuters Legal about plans to grow the Akerman Cannabis Practice in New York following the state’s legalization of recreational marijuana. On March 31, 2021, New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that would allow the recreational sale of cannabis by 2022.

Robbins expects to strengthen Akerman’s existing New York team by adding regulatory lawyers, as he foresees a “significant bump in demand” for that area. The New York team already includes employment and transactional lawyers.
