Akerman Cannabis Practice Chair Jonathan Robbins spoke to Law360 about growing concerns within the cannabis industry over a recent outbreak of vaping-related lung illnesses. The majority of illnesses seem to be caused by products in the black market, but attorneys say that cannabis companies will likely face litigation and increased oversight over the outbreak.

"The same things that are being undertaken by licensees to protect their customer base are the same things they should be doing to protect themselves in a lawsuit," Robbins said. "In other words, increased testing, increased scrutiny of any products that you're using, even hardware, for example. The best thing you can do is keep your customers informed."
