Akerman’s Cannabis Practice Chair, Jonathan Robbins, shared his perspective with The Hill on President Donald Trump’s recent signals to advance marijuana rescheduling — a move building on efforts begun during the Biden administration. Jonathan pointed out that while the process remains complex, Trump’s support could help move things forward, especially since much opposition has traditionally come from the right.
“While this sounds onerous, and indeed it is, outright support from President Trump will absolutely facilitate the process, particularly given that the vast majority of congressional opposition has historically come from the right side,” Jonathan told the publication.
Jonathan also noted that rescheduling could encourage more states to expand medical and recreational cannabis laws and allow cannabis businesses better access to banking and financial services.
This insight highlights Akerman’s active role in cannabis law and regulatory developments.
