Josh DeBottis, office managing partner of Akerman's Charlotte office and co-chair of the firm's Renewable Energy and Electric Power Practice, has been selected as an Excellence in Law honoree in the Leaders in Law category by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. Presented by a panel of independent legal professionals, the award recognizes North Carolina bar members for outstanding contributions to the practice of law and the communities they serve.
Josh focuses his practice on project finance transactions for energy and infrastructure assets, with a particular focus on solar, wind, storage, and other clean energy assets as well as data centers. He represents lenders, investors, and sponsors in a variety of debt and tax equity investment structures, including partnership-flip and sale-leaseback transactions. He also represents both buyers and sellers in tax credit transfers under the Inflation Reduction Act.
Josh has earned consistent recognition for his work, including being listed by Best Lawyers in 2026 for Energy Law and Project Finance Law in North Carolina, recommended by The Legal 500 for Energy Transactions: Electric Power, and named to the Charlotte Business Journal's 40 Under 40 in 2025.
A North Carolina native, Josh is actively involved in the Charlotte community, supporting organizations including Thompson's Children's Homes, Roof Above, and Second Harvest Food Bank.
