In a recent Law360 article, LaKeisha Marsh provided insight on the intricacies of a controversial bill that would require California colleges to share revenue from sporting events with their athletes. The California Assembly approved the College Athlete Protection Act, or A.B. 252, last week and it is now being reviewed by the state senate. The bill would create a state program with oversight of the distribution of payments to college athletes from the revenues their sports generate.

Marsh, who chairs Akerman's Higher Education and Collegiate Athletics Practice, shared her thoughts on a clause in the bill that attempts to circumvent arguments A.B. 252 would make student athletes employees of the college. Marsh told Law360 that the clause could make the bill easier to pass but added, "You're going to have critics on both sides."
