Akerman Partner LaKeisha Marsh was recently interviewed by Sportico on the financial and legal challenges colleges face amid Title IX lawsuits and potential revenue sharing in college sports. Marsh, who leads Akerman’s Higher Education and Collegiate Athletics Practice, shared her insights on how institutions must balance compliance with evolving Title IX requirements while preparing for significant changes in athlete compensation.

“Revenue may just be a catalyst to open up the door for looking at Title IX,” she told the publication. “If plaintiffs’ counsel can point to some other ongoing (Title IX) issue or disparity that is happening, they will.”

Marsh emphasized the importance of proactive legal strategies and robust policy planning to help colleges navigate increasing litigation risks and regulatory scrutiny, ensuring both legal compliance and financial sustainability in a rapidly changing collegiate athletics landscape.
