In The News

Law360 turned a spotlight recently on the incredible career of Akerman Partner Katherine "Kathi" Giddings. Giddings, who earned her law degree in her 30s and started her private practice in her 40s, will retire this week having served as deputy chair of Akerman's litigation practice.

Giddings told the news outlet, "The moral of the story is, it's never too late."

The article continued:  "Giddings also has been important for many of her clients, including those in the insurance industry like Arlene Zalayet, executive vice president and general attorney at Liberty Mutual Insurance Group."

"'For decades, Kathi Giddings provided exquisite counsel to the insurance industry, and for many carriers' in-house operations was a 'go-to' resource. Her legal acumen, combined with keen practice insights and her 24/7 availability, were always appreciated,' Zalayet said in a statement. 'Many of us owe Kathi deep gratitude for her invaluable contributions to the successful resolutions of innumerable challenging matters.'"

Giddings joined Akerman in 2004 and contributed significantly during her tenure with the firm. Giddings has served in several leadership roles in addition to deputy chair of litigation, including serving nine years on the firm's board of directors. And, as the article notes, Giddings is also well-respected for her work with sophisticated clients and mentorship of young attorneys.
