Akerman has once again been recognized by Law360 as a Florida Powerhouse. In a feature article titled, “Florida Powerhouse: Akerman,” Law360 pointed out Akerman’s historic roots in Florida dating back nearly 100 years, “Over its centurylong lifespan, the firm has been involved in historic developments in the state including the land purchase for what would later become the Walt Disney World Resort as well as the formation of the bank that became SunTrust Bank.”

Law360 highlighted significant cases and transactions secured by Akerman over the last year. In a recent landmark case for Florida, Akerman secured a win for medical marijuana treatment company Florigrown LLC, leading to a First District Court of Appeal judge determining that the law to implement medical marijuana in the state “directly contradicts” a 2016 state constitutional amendment that broadly legalized medical marijuana.

Jonathan Robbins, chair of Akerman’s Cannabis Practice, said of the firm’s growing practice in the medical marijuana industry, “We were the first national law firm to at least announce and form a specialized cannabis practice, so we've had the opportunity to be at the absolute forefront of the industry. We’ve also had the opportunity to collect a great stable of attorneys and clients in the cannabis space.”

Law360 also noted Akerman’s high-profile transactional matters, including a $238 million acquisition of 166 Burger King and 55 Popeyes locations in four states, and the Magic City development project in Miami's financial district being led by Neisen Kasdin.
