In an article titled “Bystander Training Can Reduce or Increase Legal Challenges,” by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, Marissa Hurwitz Alguire explained how bystander training, passed last year as part of California’s anti-harassment bill SB 1300, may help prevent or de-escalate workplace violence. Specifically, bystander violence is a “preventative measure designed to train and equip those who observe problematic behavior such as harassment and intervene. That intervention… can be direct or indirect.”
“You want to make sure people are trained on knowing what’s problematic, and that you’re trying to provide skills and confidence as appropriate,” Alguire said. “Training is key to help outline what problematic behavior looks like.”
