Matthew Schroeder spoke to Bloomberg Law about a federal court’s decision to allow a PFAS-related lawsuit advance and the potential impact on similar cases. The lawsuit was filed by a former firefighter in Ohio who spent four decades using firefighting foam with PFAS substances, which have been linked to adverse health conditions. The plaintiff is seeking the court to recognize a nationwide class of plaintiffs exposed to the chemicals and order major manufacturers to fund a scientific panel to study health impacts. Schroeder offered commentary on the hurdles that may lie ahead for the plaintiff.

“I don’t think the seminal question has been reached yet and the one that most people are interested in: whether or not the class is going to be certified,” he said. “They haven’t gotten to the rubicon yet.”
