Media reported on an eviction and foreclosure prevention program by the Jacksonville Bar Association and the City of Jacksonville. Akerman Jacksonville Office Managing Partner Christian George, who also serves on the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Board of Governors, helped organize efforts. The program will assist residents and business owners in Duval County who risk foreclosure or eviction due to financial challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants may receive up to $5,000 for a residential property and up to $10,000 for a commercial property for payments that will go directly to the landlord or lender to clear up past payments. The funding will come from a portion of $167 million in CARES Act funds sent by the federal government to the City of Jacksonville.

“As a civic-minded organization, we are excited to see the CARES Act funds get in the hands of the families and small businesses that need it most during the pandemic,” George said to the Florida Times Union
