Akerman Bankruptcy and Reorganization Partner Michael Goldberg will oversee the distribution of more than $16.5 million awarded to victims of an immigration scheme. The payout is part of a settlement agreed to by the Attorney General of Vermont related to the Jay Peak Resort EB-5 Projects, which used the Immigrant Investor Program to defraud foreign nationals seeking U.S. Visas, according to Law.com.

Goldberg serves as the government-appointed receiver in the Jay Peak case and was instrumental during the trial and resulting settlement negotiations. Goldberg told the news outlet that while the payout will occur over the next three years, victims should receive most of their money within the next six to eight months.
