Pedro Freyre, chair of Akerman’s International Practice, spoke to the Associated PressMiami Herald, and Financial Times about the upcoming deadline to continue suspending Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which gives Americans the right to sue companies profiting from properties confiscated by Cuba’s government. Every U.S. President since Bill Clinton has suspended the clause “because of its potential to alienate U.S. allies and complicate any future American detente with Cuba,” according to the AP.

Freyre explained to the AP, “This will have a chilling on anybody who is thinking about doing business. It just makes engagement extremely difficult.”
