Pedro Freyre, chair of Akerman's International Practice, and Luis Perez, co-chair of the firm's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice, and Manuel Reyna co-authored an article in Focus Latin America titled, "Can Venezuela Overcome its Challenges?" Their article examined Venezuela's deepening economic uncertainties. Despite hurdles within its currency exchange market and lagging GDP figures, the authors noted that Venezuela still offers opportunities in commodity and infrastructure investments. Yet, the authors wrote local monetary policies and political unrest are stifling growth and hindering markets' confidence in the nation's future. Geopolitical challenges notwithstanding, the authors ultimately concluded there are a number of encouraging signs for Venezuela.
