In a Next City article, Richard Leland elaborated on a lawsuit fighting a new rent control law in the New York City area. A group of landlords filed the lawsuit, aiming the rent stabilization program as a whole, rather than just expansions that were recently approved by the New York state legislature. The bills allow communities around New York to establish rent-control policies when they face housing shortages, and also expanded rent stabilization rules that were already in place in New York City and a few surrounding counties.“I think it’s going to be a difficult lawsuit, and it’s certainly not going to end in the district court,” Leland said.
