Richard Pinsky, Public Policy Manager, spoke to Law360 about what to expect in Florida legislation in 2021. The Florida Legislature will be expected to balance the state budget, which is facing an estimated $3-6 billion shortfall, as well as address many issues brought by the pandemic such as issuing tort protections for essential businesses in order to shield them from COVID-19-related personal injury claims. This will be the first session under the leadership of House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson.

“They’re being called to take office in a challenging time,” Pinsky said. “I think they’re both up to it, but it is unfortunate that at least their first session is going to be defined by the pandemic.”
