Scott Marrs, managing partner of Akerman’s Texas offices, was featured in the second installment of a three-part series on Forbes which examines the increasing criminalization of American corporate executives. This second part, titled, “Increasing Corporate Criminalization Threatens U.S. Economic Competitiveness,” examines how corporate criminalization, when done negligently, can hurt investment and growth in the U.S.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult for company executives, board members, and their counsel to keep track of all their areas of potential legal liability,” Marrs said. “The old ‘scorecards’ don’t work anymore. The scope of regulatory and prosecutorial actions leveled against companies – and the fines and penalties they incur – continues to grow at an unsettling rate.”
