Sergio E. Acosta, Co-Chair of Akerman's White Collar Crime and Government Investigations Practice, has been named to the inaugural 50 Powerful Latino Lawyers list by Negocios Now, a leading Hispanic business publication based in Chicago. The list honors influential Latino legal professionals whose leadership, professional accomplishments, and commitment to service have earned them recognition among the most respected members of the legal community.
A white collar litigator and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers with more than 70 jury trials to his credit, Sergio defends companies and individuals in criminal and regulatory proceedings, conducts internal investigations, and counsels clients on compliance programs. His practice encompasses matters involving bribery, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, financial and regulatory fraud, and export and import law violations. Earlier in his career, Sergio served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for approximately 18 years, including seven years as Chief of the General Crimes Section for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois, and as Administrator of the Illinois Gaming Board.
Sergio has earned consistent recognition across the legal community, including being ranked by Chambers USA, named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Illinois by Super Lawyers, and listed among Chicago's Notable Litigators and Trial Attorneys by Crain's Chicago Business.
