Akerman Land Use and Development Practice Co-Chair Spencer Crowley has been named Vice Chair of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF), the largest marine trade organization in the Southeast United States. In this role, Spencer will serve on the MIASF Executive Committee and work to advance the organization's mission of protecting and growing the South Florida marine industry.

The MIASF is a nonprofit trade organization founded in 1961 to promote the sound and sustainable growth of the marine industry across South Florida. With more than 500 members spanning Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties, it represents an industry that generates $18.5 billion in annual economic output and supports 142,000 regional jobs. The organization works closely with government officials at all levels to advocate for the marine industry's interests and long-term vitality.

Spencer focuses his practice on large-scale land use and environmental permitting matters, including zoning, growth management, urban development, transportation, coastal regulation, marina permitting, wetlands, and water resources. He has assisted clients in the permitting of major projects such as Babcock Ranch, Midtown Miami, Pier 66, Lauderdale Marine Center, Village at Gulfstream Park, Miami World Center, and Brickell City Centre, and represents the Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami International Boat Shows. He is ranked by Chambers USA in Florida for Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use, recognized by Best Lawyers in Florida for Real Estate Law and Land Use and Zoning Law, and recommended by The Legal 500 for Real Estate – Land Use/Zoning, including as a Leading Partner.

Spencer has long been active in the marine and waterfront community, having previously served as chair of the City of Miami Waterfront Advisory Board, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for the Florida Inland Navigation District, and vice president of the Florida Ocean Alliance.
