Akerman is pleased to announce the appointment of Stacy Bercun Bohm and John Neary as co-chairs of the firm’s Construction Practice. The appointments are a continuation of Akerman’s commitment to providing leading service offerings to clients with respect to their construction projects.
“We are excited to have Stacy and John at the helm of our Construction Practice,” said Eric Rapkin, Real Estate Practice Group Chair. “Their combined experience and dedication to client service will continue to power our ability to deliver exceptional results for our clients involved in construction projects across the many sectors we serve.”
Akerman’s national Construction Practice offers comprehensive legal support for major construction initiatives worldwide, including data centers and digital infrastructure, transportation, energy (renewable and conventional), petrochemical and heavy industry, public infrastructure, housing, state and federal government facilities, healthcare, sports, hotels and resorts, multifamily, and mixed-use development projects. The team advises clients, including contractors, public and private owners and developers, designers, insurance carriers, sureties, and lenders, on both transactional and litigation matters.
Stacy and John succeed Jeff Gilmore, who concludes his term as chair after an 18-year tenure in which he oversaw the group’s tremendous growth in scope and prominence, including achieving national recognition as one of the top-ranked construction practices by The Legal 500, Chambers USA, and Best Lawyers.
Stacy is a Board Certified attorney in Construction Law and a LEED® Accredited Professional, representing developers, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals in drafting and negotiating complex development, design, and construction contracts, project administration, and litigation matters. Recognized by Chambers USA for her industry expertise, Stacy’s experience encompasses a diverse array of projects, including healthcare facilities, mixed-use high-rise buildings, offices and campuses, warehouses, hotels and condominiums, stadiums and arenas, retail, airport projects, and senior living facilities. Her accolades also include recognition by The Legal 500, which notes her as a “Leading Partner” in construction, and being named one of the Top Women in Commercial Real Estate by the Florida Real Estate Journal. Her leadership will be instrumental in guiding the practice toward innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of clients in the construction industry.
John represents owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals in civil litigation and provides guidance on contract formation and administration, focusing on critical infrastructure projects, renewable and conventional power generation facilities, energy storage systems, multi-family, as well as data centers and digital infrastructure. His practice also includes counseling on state and federal government contracts and assisting clients with due diligence and other activities related to the acquisition of government contracting concerns. John’s government contracts litigation experience includes claims litigation in federal courts and before boards of contract appeals, and bid protests before various state and federal tribunals. Before law school, John worked as a field engineer for Kiewit on the replacement of the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and as an engineer for Babcock & Wilcox, supporting power-generation and air quality control systems. His insights into regulatory compliance and risk management will further strengthen Akerman’s position as a leading provider of legal services in this sector.
Both Stacy and John have been integral members of Akerman for many years, contributing significantly to the firm’s reputation as one of the top law firms in the United States. Their leadership will drive further growth, innovation, and success within the Construction Practice.
