Akerman Senior Planning and Development Consultant Richard Bass was quoted in an article from The Real Deal profiling the successful rezoning for a mixed-use project in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay. With the developers’ plans for purchasing the property relying on its successful rezoning, ABS Partners’ Randy Modell and Steven Hornstock turned to Richard to steer the 408,400 square-foot, nine-story development through the city’s approvals process.

The Real Deal writes, “Unlike other rezoning projects across New York City, Bass obtained community support with minimal pushback” by adjusting the project based on feedback from the city planning commission and the community, including accommodating a supermarket in the plan, a key request by neighbors.

Speaking to publication, Richard said, “The earlier you can engage the host community it usually results in a good solution.” The final project will feature 380 residences, including 95 affordable units.
