Akerman Healthcare Partner Jordan Cohen and Litigation Associate Alejandra Mena have been named finalists for the 2025 New York Legal Awards.

Jordan was named a finalist for the Innovation Award: Individual. This award recognizes attorneys who demonstrate creative, inspiring, and forward-thinking approaches. Jordan advises clients on federal and state privacy and data security matters, including compliance with HIPAA’s Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules, as well as state breach notification laws. He also guides clients on a broad range of healthcare regulatory issues, state licensure laws, and the corporate practice of medicine.

Among his recent accomplishments, Jordan successfully guided a telemedicine startup through complex state and federal regulations, enabling the client to establish commercial partnerships that support its near-term financial success — a vital step for sustaining a startup.

Alejandra was named a finalist for the Most Promising Newcomer Award, which honors new attorneys who have quickly distinguished themselves in the legal profession.
