Andrew Smulian serves as Akerman’s Chairman and CEO. With a focus on strategic growth, a commitment to advancing client-driven initiatives, and a dedication to building a culture of collaborative innovation, Andrew has led Akerman's transformation into a powerhouse law firm with more than 700 lawyers and business professionals who serve clients across the Americas from 24 offices nationwide.
Andrew works with Akerman’s leadership team to creatively address the challenges affecting clients and the firm’s many communities. He launched the industry’s first R&D co-venture with clients and expanded Akerman’s commitment to social impact with a first-of-its-kind partnership with the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association to provide foster children with a voice. These innovative initiatives and others have received national recognition and attracted the attention of the Financial Times, which ranked Akerman as one of North America’s most forward-thinking and socially responsible law firms.
Andrew joined the firm in 1995, becoming one of South Florida’s most highly regarded real estate lawyers. He has counseled clients in connection with billions of dollars of complex real estate transactions, gaining consistent rankings in Chambers USA and other leading publications. Andrew serves on the advisory board of Best Lawyers and is a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and Law 2023. He also serves on the board of the United Way of Miami-Dade County and is a trustee of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
