An accomplished healthcare litigator and trusted advisor, Chris Pinto is a go-to resource for healthcare providers, health systems, insurers, and life sciences organizations navigating complex disputes, government investigations, and regulatory challenges. He brings a wealth of experience from both private practice and public service, guiding clients through high-stakes litigation in federal courts, arbitration proceedings, and matters involving federal and state agencies.
Chris' practice includes representing insurers in litigation against the U.S. government, as well as handling complex litigation involving all healthcare entities, including payors, providers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and pharmacies. He regularly counsels hospitals, behavioral health organizations, and healthcare entities on reimbursement disputes, Medicare and Medicaid rate matters, compliance with mental health parity laws, and audits and investigations by federal and state oversight bodies. Chris also conducts investigations and compliance work on behalf of physicians and providers, and advises clients on policy and regulatory issues impacting the healthcare industry, including those arising under the Affordable Care Act and related federal programs.
Prior to joining Akerman, Chris served in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he represented the Department of Health and Human Services in complex statutory and medical injury claims. There, he managed a significant docket at all stages of litigation, developed case strategies in collaboration with government stakeholders, and handled trials and appeals before federal courts. This government experience gives Chris unique insight into the inner workings of federal healthcare programs and informs his practical, evidence-driven approach to client advocacy.
Beyond healthcare, Chris' background includes representing organizations in employment investigations, compliance reviews, and policy development. He maintains a robust pro bono practice in immigration and public health matters, and leverages his industry knowledge and litigation experience to deliver strategic, efficient solutions that minimize business disruption and protect client interests.
