Akerman Remembers Friend and Colleague, August (Gus) Van Eepoel
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Gus Van Eepoel, a partner in Akerman’s Tampa office. A talented tax lawyer whose clients viewed him as a trusted advisor and friend, Gus dedicated his career to helping individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and agricultural landowners navigate transactions, estate planning, and business structuring. Over nearly five decades of practice, he helped countless clients grow and protect their businesses and livelihoods through the development of strategies for expansion, merger, sale, succession planning, and "buy-sell" shareholder agreements.
Gus’ clients valued his accounting and teaching background, which added a depth to his counsel by facilitating teamwork among a family's accountant, banker, financial advisor, and life insurance consultant.
Due to his comprehensive knowledge and extensive experience in these areas, Gus frequently consulted on probate litigation about inheritance rights and trust administration/distribution, as well as civil lawsuits about corporation and shareholder disputes, operating agreements for limited liability companies and limited partnerships, and LLC membership issues.
