With nearly three decades of federal policy experience, including working on Capitol Hill in both chambers of Congress, Jane Sargent advocates for a diverse portfolio of clients before the legislative and administrative branches of government. She works on behalf of local governments, transit districts, nonprofit entities, higher education institutions, trade associations, and corporate entities to achieve specific federal goals and objectives. Her work includes federal appropriations, transportation, healthcare, education, international trade, and natural resources matters. Clients appreciate her comprehensive scope of services, including legislative and federal agency advocacy.
In federal appropriations, Jane helps clients secure programmatic funding and congressionally directed funds for projects, including transportation, water infrastructure, public safety, education, defense, and economic development. She has a comprehensive understanding of the complex congressionally appropriations process, including project eligibility and funding request submission requirements. Jane also works with her clients to draft and advance authorizing legislation to address complex policy priorities in transportation, water resources, healthcare, trade, and natural resources.
Before entering private practice, Jane gained invaluable policy experience serving as Chief Counsel and Legislative Director for former Congressman John Lewis (D-Georgia), the Chief Deputy Democratic Whip and a member of the Ways and Means Committee. She also served as Staff Counsel for former Senator Max Cleland (D-Georgia), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, working on major committees and key legislative priorities.
