John McCaffrey focuses his practice on the tax aspects of energy project financings. John represents investors in connection with their investments in renewable energy assets, including solar, wind, and storage projects, across a wide variety of structures, including sale-leaseback and partnership-flip transactions, and tax credit transfer transactions under the Inflation Reduction Act.
John's results-oriented approach is supported by more than a decade of experience working in corporate counsel roles. Prior to joining a law firm, he served as corporate counsel at Brighthouse Financial, where he provided corporate tax advice to internal clients within the company’s treasury, legal, government relations, technical accounting, and corporate governance groups. He also worked as counsel at MetLife, where he analyzed the U.S. tax consequences of various domestic and international corporate transactions and advised the company on the tax aspects of MetLife’s investments in renewable energy projects.
