Matthew Allee focuses his practice on land use, zoning and government relations, including land use entitlements, development incentives, and zoning and concurrency issues. Matthew regularly represents property owners, developers, and business owners in obtaining land use approvals and entitlements, including administrative adjustments, special uses, variations, map amendments, subdivisions, vacations and dedications, and planned developments before municipal plan commissions, planning departments, zoning boards of appeals, zoning committees, and community groups and organizations, as well as performing transactional and entitlement due diligence. He represents clients seeking business licenses, as well as clients holding business licenses in license violation cases, code enforcement, and compliance-related matters.
Additionally, Matthew has experience representing data center developers, owners, operators, and tenants in pursuing state and local development and tax incentives, preparing for compliance audits, and drafting proposed legislation to implement incentives for data centers.
Prior to joining private practice, Matthew worked in various capacities for the City of Chicago, which included serving as the Director of Zoning and Urban Development for 43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith, Assistant Corporation Counsel with the City’s Law Department, Assistant Commissioner for Hospitality Licensing and Intergovernmental Affairs for the City’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP), and most recently, was appointed Deputy Commissioner for Business Licenses and Permits for BACP.
