A Message from Akerman's Chairman and CEO

Where We Stand

The horrific events of the past several weeks have left an indelible mark on the soul and psyche of each of us. We have been witness to the basest examples of racial violence and hatred. And we have been witness to the outpouring of righteous outrage and protest that followed. It is time for all of us to take a stand.

At Akerman, we stand united against all forms of racism, discrimination, and violence. We stand with George Floyd. And with Ahmaud Arbery. And with Breonna Taylor. And with the many others who have been the victims of racial injustice. We stand with the Black community, and with all persons of good moral conscience, and we join all in saying, “this must end.”

We take profound offense at the inhumane conduct we have witnessed, and we will take strong action to prevent such conduct from happening again. We will marshal our resources to expand and focus our pro bono efforts to include matters of racial justice, anti-discrimination, and human rights. We are actively identifying concrete action items, including contributions to organizations that oppose racism, as well as direct participation in lawsuits against those who violate our civil rights. Ours are the tools of justice, and we are prepared to deploy them in this good fight.

It has been said that the ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by bad people but the silence over such action by good people. Akerman will not be silent. And together we will act.
