Diane DeWolf will moderate a webinar panel titled "Pictures, Charts, Typography and Design: Tools for Improving your Appellate Brief" presented by the Florida Bar. The panelist will include: Alexander Bokor, Judge for the Third District Court of Appeal; Raoul Cantero, Former Justice of the Florida Supreme Court; and Matthew Cavender, Federal Defender for the Middle District of Florida. The program will guide appellate attorneys through the effective use of visual aids and design principles in their legal briefing. The discussion will include how typography, spacing, and color influence readability and comprehension, and teach participants how to incorporate charts, graphs, and images into appellate briefs to support legal arguments and aid in storytelling.
The webinar will cover the following learning objectives:
- Use typography, spacing, color, and other design concepts to improve the readability of their appellate briefs
- Incorporate charts, pictures, and other visual aids effectively in their own briefing, to increase their persuasive appeal
- Follow the legal rules that govern formatting, design, and use of visual aids in state and federal appellate proceedings
- Draw upon examples of design and visual aids that were successfully employed in prior cases for their own work
