Julia Lissner will speak on a CLE program titled “How Appealing: Free CLE to Become a Volunteer Attorney in the Second District Appellate Court’s Pilot Mediation Program,” presented by the Appellate Lawyers Association of Illinois, the Appellate Court of Illinois, Second District, and Public Interest Law Initiative.

The two-hour program will prepare attorneys to better assist clients in appellate mediation and provide Illinois attorneys with the training required to apply to serve as pro bono counsel in the Second District Appellate Court’s pilot appellate mediation program for self-represented litigants.

The program will cover:

• How appellate mediation provides access to justice for all litigants
• Best practices for appellate advocacy in mediation
• Appellate rules and procedures that may confound clients and self-represented litigants
• The mechanics, strategies, and goals of appellate mediation
• Additional topics related to appellate mediation
