Speaking Engagements

Akerman Healthcare partners Kirk Davis and Elizabeth Hodge will speak at The Florida Bar Health Law Section’s Health Care Regulatory & Compliance 2026 Seminar.

Kirk Davis will serve as a panelist for “Modern Ethics at the Intersection: AI, Conflicts of Interest, and Ethical Dilemmas for Healthcare Lawyers.” The panel will examine scenario-based ethical dilemmas involving the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice and client operations, conflicts of interest in healthcare transactions and peer review, and the challenges of advising clients navigating regulatory gray areas. Panelists will also share practical frameworks for identifying ethical concerns early, communicating effectively with clients, and preventing or resolving potential conflicts.

Elizabeth Hodge will serve as a panelist for “Breach Response Under Pressure: HIPAA, Florida Law, and Privacy Incident Management.” Through realistic breach scenarios, the panel will examine when incidents involving individuals’ health information may trigger reporting obligations under HIPAA, the HITECH Act, and applicable Florida privacy laws. Panelists will discuss incident response and notification requirements, legal strategy, and practical considerations following a confirmed breach, including regulatory penalties, litigation exposure, and reputational risk.
