Akerman's Labor & Employment Practice Group will present a half-day seminar on employment law challenges facing private sector employers. This annual educational program for executives, HR professionals, and attorneys will cover best practices for handling harassment and discrimination claims, navigating ADA and FMLA claims, and significant developments in labor and employment law. The Akerman Summit is a valuable resource to deal with the numerous employment issues facing employers. Presenters include Karen Buesing, Zarra Elias, and Scott Silverman.

The various topics that will be covered include:

Navigating Tricky Issues Under the ADA and FMLA
Employers continue to have difficulty with employees who have medical conditions affecting their performance. What inquiries can you safely make and what should you avoid? What documentation should you request? How can a current job description help or hurt? What if the employee cannot return to work after exhausting FMLA leave? What if the employee is not entitled to FMLA leave at all, but cannot work? The interactive program will discuss multiple workplace scenarios and share tips for dealing with each.

Employment Law Update
Join us for a whirlwind tour of what's new in the world of EEO law, wage and hour law, and labor law, including highlights of important new court decisions as well as new and pending regulations and agency guidance. The program will discuss how these developments impact your workplace and what’s still likely coming down the pike.
