Akerman is the sponsor and host of a Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) seminar titled, "Hate Crimes & the LGBTQ Community" presented by the LGBT Bar Association of Los Angeles. The MCLE will feature Akerman partner, Gera Peoples and Richard Ceballos, a deputy district attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Richard Ceballos is currently assigned to the Organized Crime Division and Hate Crimes Special Unit. In addition, he has been a lecturer in law at the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law and the University of California at Irvine School of Law, where he has taught courses in Criminal Procedure, Advanced Criminal Procedure, Prosecutorial Ethics and Integrity, and Ethical Issues for Public Interest, Government, and Criminal Lawyers. Richard is also a frequent lecturer for the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) and has spoken before delegations in Johannesburg, South Africa; Beijing, China; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Moscow, Russian Federation.
